Situated at the highest point on the coast south of Camden Hills, the site commands a panoramic view of Casco Bay and the mouth of the Kennebec. The house located on top of Morse Mountain in Phippsburg and now part of the Bates Morse Mountain Conservation Area. Designed to replace a former barracks destroyed by fire the new structure takes advantage of passive solar orientation and is scaled to minimize it’s visual impact. Resource efficient materials include native cedar siding, and certified maple flooring. An active solar hot water collector supplies heat for a radiant floor and the domestic water system.
